Wolverine for Martin Williams

Following up on our success with a Wolverine shoot last fall, the MW team again gave us the assignment of shooting more images- highlighting factory workers this time- wearing Wolverine boots and clothes. We shot at a great looking factory I had used a couple of years earlier on a 3M job in New Prague, MN. Cool looking interiors of grease, metal and big machines. Again, we used mostly actual workers doing what they do and shot on a Saturday so we would have run of the place. I Spent most of the day crawling around on a greasy factory floor. Can't beat that!

Ameripride for Tartan Marketing

Tartan CD/Art Director, Michael Vogt, needed restaurant images for work uniform and linen supplier, Ameripride, to use in various print collateral pieces. We shot at a cool new restaurant in St. Paul called the Salt Cellar that specializes in steak and seafood. Using a combination of actual employees and models, we shot images highlighting the uniforms, table linens and even the entry floor rugs that Ameripride also supplies companies. We even did one shot in the restroom. Not what you’re thinking.

LifeTime Fitness Training & Spa

My pal, Jill Palmquist, asked me to design and art direct a direct mail piece she was working on targeted at women for LifeTime Training. She also had another piece that designer Katherine Lamm was art directing for LifeTime Spa that needed some new images. We spent one day in studio shooting portraits of babies, girls and women that we cast from LifeTime employees (and one woman Jill Facebook stalked until she agreed to do it) for the Training piece, and a second day shooting the spa images with fashion models. Still with me? Anyway, after the shoot, the folks at LifeTime decided they wanted us to use the images to make a :60 video instead. Ok, no problem. Jill and I worked with the team at Crash & Sues on the video and it all turned out pretty cool. The world of Jill works in mysterious ways.

Wolverine Boots for Martin Williams

The team at Martin Williams needed to shoot a library of images for client Wolverine Boots on a construction site location. We managed to find the perfect job site downtown of two large buildings being built by Ryan Companies. After a day of scouting around the site for shots and casting the actual workers to be used in the shoot, we shot on a Sunday. It was run n’ gun as we covered workers in different boots and clothing all over the two sites from down in the mud to 5 stories up on the steel and concrete skeleton of one tower. Much thanks to Ryan for allowing a crew of almost 20 people to have run of the site (safety first of course) and to the guys (especially Duane) for hauling gear up 5 floors of scaffolding and not getting hurt.

Amana Colonies for Thorburn Group

In October, I hit the road for a shoot in the Amana Colonies in Iowa. The colonies were founded over 150 years ago by German immigrants and are made up of 7 different villages scattered over more than 26,000 acres where they farm, make highly crafted furniture and woolen products, as well as meats and specialty food items. The entire operation is pretty self sustaining. We spent 4 days shooting everything from cattle herding and farming to their historic woolen mill operation and lumber mill criss crossing the beautiful rolling hills of central Iowa. Thanks to Bill Thorburn (with maybe a big nudge from my sis) for bringing me on board for such a great assignment. But man, they roll up the streets pretty early down there! Dinner by 6 or you’re eating at the pump n’ go.
