The coast from Half Moon Bay to Big Sur

Providing the perfect excuse to get out of Minnesota for a week, I traveled to Carmel, CA in early March to drive and shoot for 6 days up and down the Pacific Coast Hwy. An expiring plane ticket from a canceled job (no worries JJ) was also good incentive to go. Thanks to Bill Kaplan for putting me up in his beautiful place in Carmel. And for sending back my forgotten camera battery and charger.

Mercy Hospital in Iowa City

Working with art director Jeff Jahn, we photographed actual patients and staff in 2 1/2 hectic run n’ gun days for Mercy Hospital’s newest print campaign. JJ is one of the best in the business and it’s always a treat to work with him. And as far as hospital food goes, it wasn’t bad.

Shooting in Pennsylvania for Abbotsford Farms

Amish and Mennonite egg producers aren’t exactly big fans of being in pictures. But that was the assignment from CD Julie Kucinski and client Abbotsford Farms. Shooting the actual farmers on their farms as well as capturing the rural tapestry in and around the Lancaster County area was a lot of fun and a great experience. Oh, and that’s Julie hanging the clothes on the line. She’s such a domestic.

Jim picks up gold and a bronze in The Show for Nokota horses and Great Sand Dunes images

A series of images I shot for The Nokota Horse Conservancy as well as a series on The Great Sand Dunes in Colorado picked up some hardware at the Minneapolis Ad Fed awards (The Show). Horses won a gold and Sand Dunes a bronze in the photography-self promotion series category. A big thanks to friend, mentor and outstanding photographer Christopher Wilson for suggesting I tag along on the Nokota shoot and bring a camera. And thanks to long time bud Ron Crofoot for lending the camera. That trip is what got this whole photo thing started. Thanks guys. I think.

A day in the life of a dairy farm family for Broadhead

I shot on location in west central Minnesota for a day covering all aspects (and we mean all) of a dairy farm family for Minneapoils agency Broadhead and client Boehringer Ingleheim. The images were used for a series of ads and inserts which I also designed and art directed for Broadhead CD John Walker. It was a great time but my boots and one of my white silk reflectors will never be the same.
